Chicago RV Show, Now We Know
Well, I have been talking about going to the Chicago RV Show in the last couple of posts and we did that on Saturday. We looked only at 5th wheels since that is what we plan to purchase when we get ready to retire in early to mid 2015. We saw high end, mid range and low end rigs. After reviewing the prices, floorplans, options and the specifications of all those we saw we have determined that the Sanibel 3500 is the one within our price range, has the specifications for full timing, the quality in construction and the floorplan we like the best. Now I'm not saying that this decision might not change in the future before we pull the trigger but I have been to the Chicago RV show for the third year in a row and the Grand Rapids RV show this year and we just have not seen another 5th wheel IN OUR PRICE RANGE that really meets our wants and needs like this one. Are there better rigs out there? I'm sure there might be but we feel like we have seen just about every manufacturer out there right now and for our money we like the Sanibel. I've searched a number of forums and the general consensus I have seen is "the best rig for you is the one that fits your wants and needs". This one does that for us. Going to Chicago and seeing the Sanibel again after our first impression in Grand Rapids confirms our sense of knowing. Working toward retirement and it won't be long.

Great floor plan.....lots of drawers in the bedroom and I like the kitchen island. Good sitting for TV and a desk for the computer. All the bases covered!
ReplyDeleteAren't you just too excited? Happy dreaming!
Gay and Joe, Very excited to be making some decisions on our place to live. Just wish we had actually been able to put in an order for one. That time will come though. The floorplan is a selling point however I am impressed with the underlying construction also. I figure if we are going to pull our home around the country it better hold up to the rigors of moving. Thanks for your comment.
ReplyDeleteI looked over the Sanibel 3500 link, it sure looks like a super rig. I really like the suspension system and the 90 gal grey tank. They really designed a great package for fulltiming, you've made a great choice.
ReplyDeleteHopefully you can get one soon!
Paul and Marti, Thank you for your comment. We really do feel the specifications, construction and floorplan are what we would need when we go fulltime. Looks like it will be another 18-22 months until we are able to make the purchase so we will continue to follow folks like you to further our knowledge and keep our dream alive. Curt
DeleteThank you for checking us out.
ReplyDeleteBefore we purchased our motorhome we did a lot of research (3 years). We even rented one and took it to high end RV park, drycamping in the desert and long drives just to give us a feel if this is something we really want to do. When the economy sunk in 2009, we had the opportunity to buy our Tour at a very high discount (otherwise it was out of our price range as well). We were sill 2 years away from retirement so we took trips to really learn about the rig and we still are leaning a lot now that we are on the road.
Good Luck and hope you get what you really want and need.

Mona Liza, Thank you for looking at my blog. Not much to discuss yet until we get on the road but it is fun to converse with others of like mind. Here I am at work replying to a comment on my blog.(You can really tell where my head and heart is) You can see from my earlier posts that we had been thinking about buying a travel trailer for a long time and then about 2 years ago decided to go for it. Once we got started, found some RV blogs and did some "camping" we knew we wanted to make our lives simpler when we retired. We have been to numerous RV dealers lots and as you can tell numerous RV shows. We just happened across this manufacturer and model and fell in love. I enjoy reading blogs like yours and dream of our time. Thank you for sharing your information and your lives for those of us that are working toward our dream. Curt
