Don't start sending mail to our new South Dakota address just yet. I contacted Americas Mailbox in Box Elder, SD a couple weeks ago since we decided to make SD our state of domicile. I found out that you don't actually have to live in your fulltime RV before getting an address for mail forwarding. Wish I would have known that before we bought the truck and the 5th wheel. Would have saved ourselves about 4.75% on our purchases since SD sales tax is 3% and IL sales tax is 7.75%. Why didn't I do more research or call the mail forwarding service before this? Anyway, we just got an email that we have an address with Americas Mailbox. The next step will be to register the vehicles there once I get all my paperwork from IL(registration, etc.) for the truck and 5th wheel. We plan to wait until I actually retire on Sept 1 to go out to SD and get our drivers licenses. Once we do that we should be official. I haven't set up any type of delivery schedule for forwarding since we still live in our house and it isn't ready to go on the market yet.
Just wanted to mention this new step in our progression toward full timing. Each step makes it more real and a little scary too. Glenda has been working hard at getting the house ready by sorting pictures, papers, clothes and taking down some wallpaper in the kitchen for a fresh coat of paint soon. We also made an appointment for our PDI to pick up the Bighorn on April 4th and plan to stay at a local KOA in Granger, IN over the weekend before bringing her home. That reminds me of another thing. We're trying to think of a name for our new home. Seems everywhere I read everyone has named their rigs. So that will be the next step. HaHa. If you have any suggestion, leave a comment. Thanks for following our progress. We continue to work toward retirement and full timing and it won't be long.
We simply shortened the name Avalanche and call our trailer Ava. Whatever it is you don't want the name to be too long and child friendly. Grandchildren have vivid imaginations maybe ask one of them.
ReplyDeleteSince this is a New Beginning or Next Step in your lives try one of those on for size.
Be Safe and Enjoy!
It's about time.
Rick, that's a great idea for your rig name. Still working on ours. Hope the grandkids can give us some help. We will definitely try using our new adventure as an inspiration. Curt
DeleteWow, how did I not come across your blog before this? My husband and I have been planning since January of 2013 to be full time this summer. We're also neighbors. We're at PMB 5404 :-) You're both just a few months ahead of us. So exciting to read how close you are to heading out. Will you be at the Spring Rally?
ReplyDeleteHi Debbie, Thank you for your comment and following my blog. You're PMB is very close to ours we're PMB 5438. As you mentioned we are getting very excited about making the transition to full timing. We won't be at the Spring Rally in TN since I am still at my job and we hope to be showing the house and getting some offers by the end of April(fingers crossed). I hope we have the opportunity meet on the road someday. Good luck with your progress and enjoy the rally. Curt
DeleteHopefully you see this. I couldn't find a way to send you an e-mail on your blog. We are picking up our truck in Clinton! We were going to leave the rally Sunday morning (May 4) and drive to the airport in Bloomington to drop off our rental car. Perhaps we can meet up for dinner Sunday? I'll bet you're having a blast in your new home!
ReplyDeleteLeft a reply on your blog....email me at lowryc50@gmail.com We can see if we can get something set up that Sunday May 4th.
